Russia will legislatively establish uniform rules for labeling organic products

In the first reading, the State Duma adopted a draft law that sets out clear rules for the sale of agricultural products labeled bio or eco.

Earlier, a law was passed in the Russian Federation allowing manufacturers to label products as ecological, organic, biological, etc. only if they meet certain requirements. However, some manufacturers unreasonably use the words "bio" or "eco" in their trademarks and brand names, which, in fact, mislead customers.

With the adoption of the bill, such companies will be required to either switch to organic production or re-register their trademarks.
