The European Union is preparing to propose to the Group of Seven (G7) to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil supplied by sea. This was reported by the Reuters news agency with reference to the European Commissioner for Economics Valdis Dombrovskis.

According to him, the European Commission, in the context of discussing the 18th package of anti-Russian sanctions, proposed setting a ceiling at $50 per barrel. Dombrovskis plans to announce this proposal at a meeting of G7 finance ministers to be held in Canada this week.

In 2022, the Group of Seven countries, the EU and Australia imposed a ceiling on prices for Russian oil supplied by sea at $60 per barrel.
