In Russia, in the first quarter of this year, 4.2 thousand hectares of illegally seized forest plots located in the Central, Far Eastern and Siberian Federal Districts were returned to the forest fund. This is reported by the Federal Forestry Agency.

It was noted that only in the Central Federal District, 3.4 thousand hectares of forest fund lands, previously illegally transferred under a contract of gratuitous use, were returned to state ownership in court.

"The actions of the defendants to dispose of the lands of the forest fund have been recognized as illegal," the press service of the department reports.

In general, over the past eight years, illegally seized forest plots with a total area of 445.8 thousand hectares have been returned to the forest fund lands.
