Rosprirodnadzor estimated the total damage from the tanker accident in the Kerch Strait at 84.943 billion rubles. This amount has been submitted for payment to the shipowners.
According to Roman Starovoit, the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the investigation into the causes of the tanker crash has been completed. Among the main reasons cited were the failure of shipowners and ship captains to comply with restrictions on the navigation season in the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, as well as understaffing.
The wreck of the tankers Volgoneft-212 and Volgoneft-239 in the Kerch Strait occurred on December 15, 2024. Due to the oil spill in the sea, the entire coast of the Krasnodar Territory was affected.
