By the end of 2024, the Russian banking sector earned 3.8 trillion rubles. This is reported by the Central Bank.
At the same time, the overall financial result of the sector was slightly lower - 3.4 trillion rubles. This is explained by the negative revaluation of securities, which is directly accounted for in equity.
It was noted that in December, compared with November, the net profit of the sector fell 2.8 times, to 187 billion rubles. The main reasons for the decline were the negative revaluation of the currency (-120 billion rubles after +162 billion rubles in November) due to the strengthening of the ruble against the dollar (+6% after weakening by 10% in November); increased operating expenses, including traditional staff payments at the end of the year; and There is also a devaluation of intangible assets at a number of banks.
According to the results of December, 205 Russian banks operated profitably, 109 with a negative financial result. In November, these figures were at the level of 251 and 64, respectively.
