Six EU countries have sent an appeal to the European Commission with a proposal to lower the ceiling on oil prices from the Russian Federation. This was announced by EC representative Olof Gill.

He noted that this proposal will be the topic of discussion among the allies at the G7 meeting./p> In particular, representatives of the Nordic and Baltic countries asked for increased restrictions. In their opinion, lowering the current ceiling on Russian oil prices will damage the defense budget of the Russian Federation. The need to strengthen efforts to curb the activities of the shadow tanker fleet of the Russian Federation was also stated.

The embargo on offshore oil supplies from the Russian Federation came into force in December. The Group of Seven countries, the EU and Australia have set a price ceiling at $60 per barrel. After that, the Russian president said that the country would not supply energy resources to countries that limit prices. In February 2023, a price ceiling was set for petroleum products from the Russian Federation, which, depending on the category, is 45-100 dollars per barrel.
