Residents of Russia increased the purchase of foreign currency in August of this year by 2.5 times compared to the month of July. This is reported by the RBC edition with reference to the review of financial market risks by the Bank of Russia.

The volume of net purchases of foreign currency (we are talking about purchases, minus sales) by the Russian population in August this year increased 2.5 times to 98.1 billion rubles. For comparison, it is worth recalling that in August 2023, amid the weakening of the ruble, citizens bought currencies in the amount of only 3.1 billion rubles, in August 2022 for 133.9 billion rubles. At the same time, in June, such currency purchases by residents of the Russian Federation reached 100.2 billion rubles, and in May 178.9 billion rubles.

According to the Central Bank of the Russian Federation, this is due to the fact that in August the Russian ruble weakened against the yuan by 1.8%, and against the dollar by 5.6%.
