Industry in Russia in May this year showed good results, although its growth rate for the year remained the same, in January-May it grew by only 5.2%. This is reported by the telegram channel «Regional Policy»/p>

If in April by March the industry showed an unexpected decline, then in May by April it managed to grow by at least 1%. Stability was also reinforced by the lists of regional leaders, which remained almost the same.

Positive trends were set primarily by the manufacturing industry, which grew by 8.8% in January-May, roughly matching the pace of the whole year. In May, processing increased by 1.5% compared to April, breaking the negative trend when it unexpectedly fell in April. At the same time, mining is not encouraging, the growth in January-May was only 0.2%. In May, it still increased by 2.8% compared to April, similarly overcoming the April negative trend.

Dagestan remains the leader in terms of growth rates, but its leadership has not been so clear since May. Industry there grew by 46.2% in January-May, and in the second-place Kurgan region, where growth was 38.2%.

The most important contribution to the all-Russian piggy bank is made by Moscow, where growth amounted to 17.6% and the Moscow region with a growth rate of 15.5%, but there, on the contrary, the growth rate fell. Growth of more than 15% and large volumes of production hit the Rostov and Saratov regions. Buryatia, Kirov, Vladimir, Tambov, Ulyanovsk regions, Sevastopol and Kabardino-Balkaria are at the same solid level of growth. In addition, we will note large industrial regions with growth of more than 10%. Their list includes St. Petersburg with the Leningrad region, Perm Krai, Samara, Irkutsk and Tula regions, Yakutia, etc.

The main outsider remains the Republic of Tyva with a 23.7% drop in industry. In total, the industry fell in 11 regions of the country. Among them, attention is drawn to the problems that have arisen in the most important raw material regions dependent on the oil and gas industry - Khanty-Mansiysk JSC, Sakhalin Nenets JSC. The Krasnoyarsk Territory is suffering along with its metallurgy, and the crisis in the coal industry is dragging down Kuzbass. Karelia, Crimea, Kalmykia, Orenburg Region and the Jewish Autonomous Region are also in the red.

Regions with weak growth of less than 1% are on the verge of crisis. These are the Murmansk and Astrakhan regions. Regions with growth at the level of 1-2% cannot but cause concern. Here you can see such important subjects for the Russian economy as Tatarstan, the Chelyabinsk Region and the Krasnodar Territory, along with the Tomsk Region that joined them.

Overall, the situation in Russian industry remains relatively successful, but serious differences between regions are visible. The main contribution to the all-Russian growth continues to be made by two metropolitan regions, which are accompanied by several more industrialized territories. It seems that these territories, their businesses and governors turned out to be the most agile, having seen and implemented promising plans in difficult conditions. The contribution of the regions specializing in the defense industry is also noticeable, but it no longer seems as obvious as before. The problems of raw material regions are also very noticeable, especially those that rely on the fuel and energy sector. By the end of May, there were no fundamental changes, but it did not get worse, which so far allows us to predict the continuation of the prevailing trends for the summer of this year.
