The Russian government has approved a long-term strategy for the development of bioeconomy, aimed at increasing the use of biotechnologies across various sectors such as agriculture, medicine, energy, utilities (ЖКХ stands for housing and communal services), and others until 2036.

The first significant phase of the strategy implementation is scheduled until 2030. By that time, the authorities plan to increase the level of technological independence in bioeconomy to 40%, and the output of relevant products by 96% compared to current levels.

Another key goal is to increase the share of domestic products in the internal consumption structure to 55%. To achieve this, 36 full-cycle production chains will be established within the framework of the national project.

Government support for the industry will include measures to regulate imports and stimulate demand for Russian products. This is expected to expand the domestic market and create favorable conditions for the development of domestic producers simultaneously.

A separate section of the strategy focuses on personnel training. Already, about 3,000 applications have been received for educational programs in biotechnology-related fields.

In the long term, the development of bioeconomy is expected to lead to broader implementation of biotechnological solutions in different sectors of the economy and increase the share of Russian production in this area.
