### Mobile Internet Traffic Continues to Decline in Russia The volume of mobile internet traffic in Russia continued to fall in the second quarter of 2026, dropping by 6% compared to the same period last year to reach 12.1 billion GB, according to data from the Ministry of Digital Development cited by [Vedomosti](https://www.vedomosti.ru/technology/articles/2026/10/06/1234512-potreblenie-mobilnogo-interneta). This marks the second consecutive quarter of decline in mobile internet consumption. However, overall demand for internet services remains strong: users are increasingly opting for fixed-line connections. In fact, fixed internet traffic increased by 55% over the year, reaching 58.6 billion GB. At the same time, the number of outgoing mobile connections rose by 27%. Experts attribute the shift in consumption patterns partly to restrictions on mobile internet access and the implementation of "whitelists" for approved online resources. In the face of unstable mobile data transmission, users are more frequently connecting to Wi-Fi networks and may be reverting to traditional voice calls for communication.
