### Civil Drones in Russia Must Connect to ERA-GLONASS System Starting October 1 Starting October 1, civilian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in Russia will be required to connect to the ERA-GLONASS system in order to submit flight plans to the State Corporation for Air Traffic Management. If drone owners or operators do not have an active personal account in the system, their flight plans will not be accepted, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport. The new rules come into effect after a seven-month adaptation period that began when civilian drones were first required to connect to the system. During this time, owners and operators had the opportunity to meet the necessary requirements before the full implementation of the new regulations. Since March 1, drones weighing more than 250 grams must be equipped with remote identification devices. These devices transmit information to the system in real-time, allowing authorities to verify data about the drone itself, its owner, and the legality of the flight. Currently, over a thousand users are connected to the ERA-GLONASS system. There are 1,205 drones registered in the system, which are used in agriculture, forestry, infrastructure monitoring, aerologistics, and aerial photography. The unified identification system for civilian drones was created under the direction of the Russian President and coordinated by the Ministry of Transport. Before entering service, its capabilities were tested in 40 regions of the country. The system is designed to organize drone flights while ensuring safety and identification requirements are met.
