Russian security services have detained a foreign national who was planning to launch a drone from a Moscow railway station, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB).
The FSB alleges that the drone was intended for surveillance of railway tankers carrying petroleum products, as well as gathering information on government buildings, transport infrastructure, and public gathering places.
After completing his mission, the man attempted to leave Russia. He was apprehended in the Murmansk region just before he was set to cross into Norway.
In addition, the FSB reported the arrest of eight individuals allegedly involved in preparing an attack using FPV drones on a facility in the Moscow region.
According to the security service, an attempt by Ukrainian forces to attack a strategically important defense facility in the Moscow region was thwarted in July. The attack was reportedly planned to involve 35 FPV drones equipped with powerful explosive devices.
The FSB claims that the drones were illegally transported into Russia from Slovakia via Poland and Belarus, with the assistance of European intelligence agencies.
