Starting September 1, 2026, Russian citizens will be able to check into hotels without presenting paper documents, using the "Max" messenger app instead. This option will be available at all accommodation facilities with more than 50 rooms, according to a statement from the Russian government.
Currently, nearly 24,000 hotels are technically equipped to accept digital IDs. The service is already accessible in over 375 hotels across 56 regions.
Using a digital ID reduces check-in time for tourists to just 1-2 minutes and also decreases the operational burden on hotel staff.
