Garage Amnesty Extended to 2031 in Russia

Russian lawmakers have extended the simplified procedure for registering garages and the land beneath them until September 1, 2031, according to a document published in the State Duma database.

The simplified registration process, which came into effect in September 2021, applies to permanent structures built by individuals for personal use before December 30, 2004. The original deadline for this "garage amnesty" was set to expire on September 1, 2026.

Since the introduction of the amnesty, around 800,000 garages have been registered in Russia. The extension of the mechanism is expected to benefit an additional 500,000 people or more.
