Russian lawmakers have passed a bill allowing domestic companies to refuse to exercise buyback options from former foreign owners. Businesses will only be able to exercise this right through court proceedings.

Legal action can be initiated either by the asset acquirer or by the relevant ministry for the enterprise, following approval from the government commission for foreign investment control. Cases will be heard by the Moscow Arbitration Court.
