Cleanup efforts continue on Anapa beaches following the oil spill incident. Additional layers of clean sand are being laid on affected beaches, as discussed at a meeting of the government commission tasked with addressing the consequences of the tanker accidents in the Kerch Strait (a strait connecting the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov).
It was noted that the work is being closely monitored by Rospotrebnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing). To date, 58 beaches in Anapa have received permits to open for the season, while another 10 are undergoing expert evaluations.
Meanwhile, specialists are conducting ongoing monitoring of the Black Sea waters, the coastline of the Krasnodar region, and Crimea. No new instances of oil product spills have been recorded since the incident, and satellite imagery also confirms the absence of oil slicks in the area of the tanker accidents.
