Putin Sets State Duma Elections for September 20

The elections for the ninth convocation of the State Duma will take place on September 20, 2026. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding decree, which was published on the official legal information website.
"The elections of the State Duma deputies of the new convocation are scheduled for September 20. This decree comes into force on the day of its official publication," the document states.
For the first time, residents of Donbasss and Novorossiya (territories in Eastern Ukraine) will participate in the Duma elections this year.
In addition to the Duma elections, the unified voting day will see the election of heads in 11 regions, eight of which will be direct elections, while in three regions, the highest-ranking officials will be elected by local legislative assemblies. Elections for regional legislative bodies will be held in 39 regions.
