Russian banks prevented theft of 1.8 trillion rubles ($23.1 billion) in Q1 2026 by blocking nearly 16.8 million fraud attempts, according to the Central Bank of Russia (CBR).
During the same period, bank customers filed 495,800 complaints about fraudulent transactions with their savings, resulting in total losses of 7.4 billion rubles ($95 million). Compared to the previous quarter, losses decreased by 10.2%.
In response to the fraudulent activity, the CBR initiated the blocking of 10,500 fraudulent websites and social media pages, and provided telecom operators with information on 8,300 phone numbers used by scammers.
