Russia is facing a severe shortage of machine and installation operators, with the demand for skilled industrial workers far exceeding supply, according to data presented at a strategic session on forecasting labor needs in the economy led by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
Last year, the government developed a seven-year forecast detailing regional, sectoral, professional, and qualification requirements based on data collected from companies. A similar forecast was prepared for 500 key enterprises participating in national projects aimed at achieving technological leadership.
The results highlighted a growing demand for technically-oriented specialists such as electromechanics, foundry workers, and welders. Mishustin urged regional authorities to take this information into account when planning vocational training programs.
