Access to satellite TV services has been restored for residents in European Russia, the Urals and Western Siberia. The malfunctioning Express-AT1 satellite, which went offline in March, has been replaced by the Express-AT2 telecommunications spacecraft, according to Russian satellite operator Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC).

"Starting from April 8, Express-AT2 has fully resumed providing services for satellite TV users in European Russia, the Urals and Western Siberia. This restores access to direct satellite broadcasting services for 1.5 million households affected by the Express-AT1 failure," the operator stated.

  • Earlier in March, it was reported that the Express-AT1 telecommunications satellite had malfunctioned for unknown reasons. Recovery efforts were unsuccessful. It was announced that the development of a new satellite, Express-AT3, which will fully replace the malfunctioning Express-AT1, will continue until 2030.
