The new German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has stated that there is a high probability that Moscow will decide in the coming days to extend the ceasefire for 30 days. He voiced his opinion during a press conference in Brussels.

He expressed confidence that after the extension of the truce for 30 days, negotiations on a peace agreement could begin.

"I really hope that a ceasefire agreement will be reached in Ukraine this weekend," Bild quoted him as saying.

The truce announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War ends on the night of May 10-11.
