To increase pressure on Moscow in the conflict with Ukraine, the United Kingdom will impose sanctions on hundreds of oil tankers of the Russian shadow fleet. The sanctions are expected to be the largest package of measures against the Russian shadow fleet.

"We will do everything in our power to disrupt the shadowy activities of the navy, deprive its military machine (Russian President Vladimir Putin) of oil revenues, and protect the underwater infrastructure on which we depend in our daily lives.; - said Starmer.

According to the UK, starting in 2024, Russian oil tankers transported $24 billion worth of cargo, and some vessels caused emergencies related to damage to critical infrastructure (we are talking about cable damage in the Baltic Sea).

It is expected that new measures against the Russian Federation will be announced on May 9 during the summit of the Alliance for the Security of the Joint Expeditionary Forces, which will be held in Oslo.
