In Russia, potatoes are becoming more expensive due to a reduction in the number of private farms. This opinion was voiced by Alexey Krasilnikov, Executive Director of the Union of Potato and Vegetable Market Participants, reports "a href="https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/7711266">"Kommersant".
Krasilnikov noted that according to Rosstat, back in the early 2000s, 95% of potatoes were produced in private farms, and now this figure has dropped to 50-60%. Large agricultural producers have become the main suppliers of vegetables, but they cannot always meet the needs of the market.
Potato consumption in Russia is about 8.5 million tons per year. In 2023, the volume of domestic potato production amounted to a record 8.6 million tons, of which about 3.5 million tons were grown in private gardens.
