Diversions Attempt on Railway Tracks in Altai Territory Thwarted

In the Altai region, an attempt at sabotage on the railway was thwarted. It was planned by members of a terrorist organization banned in Russia under the control of Ukrainian intelligence services.

The press service of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) clarified that the incident took place on November 22 on the railway section between the stations of Altayskaya and Biysk. Two perpetrators attempted to install a so-called derailing device on railway tracks with high traffic density of freight and passenger trains. During their arrest, the suspects resisted with firearms and were neutralized in response to gunfire.

It turned out that the individuals were local residents who had been recruited via a popular messenger app by representatives of the terrorist organization in exchange for financial reward. The perpetrators themselves had previously selected the location for the sabotage and conducted reconnaissance in advance.

A criminal case has been initiated under several articles related to sabotage, assault on the life of a law enforcement officer, illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or carrying of weapons, main parts of firearms, and ammunition.
