The threat of new oil product leaks from the sunken tankers "Volgoneft-212" and "Volgoneft-239" in the Kerch Strait has been eliminated. This conclusion was reached by the participants of the government commission meeting on eliminating the consequences of the emergency situation, chaired by Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev. According to diving inspections, no sources of pollution have been found on the sunken fragments of the tankers.
The operation to clean up the coastline is entering its final phase. Monitoring confirms that no new oil product spills have been recorded on the coast of Anapa and Temryuk district over the past week.
Since the start of the work, rescue and environmental services have cleaned a total of more than 2,000 kilometers of coastline. Some areas have undergone repeated treatment.
Almost 185,000 tons of contaminated sand and soil have been collected. Of this total, more than 184,000 tons have already been transported and handed over to specialized organizations for disposal or recycling.
In Sevastopol, all collected oil-contaminated waste has been completely disposed of. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the resulting secondary material has been transferred for use by road services.
Currently, the main efforts within the ecological operation are focused on completing the removal of the remaining soil and the final reclamation of the territories.
