The Russian government has initiated a new phase in the expansion of the digital marking system "Chestny Znak". Starting from November 14, a pilot project for voluntary marking of key categories of grocery products will be launched in the country and will last until February 28, 2026.

The pilot project will cover cereals, pasta, flour, dry breakfast cereals, instant potatoes, and honey. The main objective at this stage is to develop a universal industry model. Participants, including manufacturers, importers, and retailers, will need to work together to find optimal technological solutions for applying identification means and establish an effective system for their circulation.

Participation in the experiment is voluntary and free for all parties involved.

The expansion of the marking system continues the trend towards the gradual digitalization of the Russian consumer market. As of March 1, 2025, mandatory marking has already been introduced for certain products, including some snacks, sauces, and spices, and from September 1, it will also apply to tea, coffee, and cocoa.

The pilot project for groceries will help refine the processes before the introduction of mandatory requirements, minimizing costs for businesses.
