In October, Russia increased its coal exports by 10% compared to the same period last year, reaching 17.3 million tons. However, compared to September, the volume of shipments decreased by 1%. This information was reported by "Kommersant" referring to the data from the Center for Price Indices.
From January to October 2025, Russian coal exports amounted to 169.9 million tons, which is 3.6% higher year-on-year.
The dynamics are explained by an improvement in the price environment, especially in the eastern direction. As of the end of October, quotes for thermal coal with a calorific value of 6000 kcal in Far Eastern ports were fixed at $85 per ton, which is $4-5 higher than at the beginning of the month, and $8-9 higher than at the beginning of September. At the same time, Russian coking coal increased in price to $165.9 per ton, exceeding the level of 2024 for the first time in a long time.
Experts predict an increase in coal shipments to China in November, where cold weather has already set in in some regions, and domestic production volumes are decreasing.
