The United Kingdom, Australia and Canada have recognized the State of Palestine.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that recognition of Palestinian sovereignty is by no means a support for the radical Hamas movement. London said that Hamas should not play any role in the future governance of Palestine. As confirmation of these words, Starmer announced the imminent expansion of the sanctions regime against the group.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, in announcing the decision, offered Palestine "a partnership to build hope for a peaceful future for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples." In his statement, he provided an exhaustive argument, directly assigning responsibility to the current Israeli government. Among the reasons cited are "methodical work to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state," "the ruthless policy of settlement expansion in the West Bank," and military operations in the Gaza Strip. Carney also stressed that recognizing Palestine under the leadership of the Palestinian National Authority would help isolate and weaken Hamas.

Australia joined this diplomatic initiative by officially recognizing the independent and sovereign State of Palestine. As follows from the joint statement by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong, this decision is the only viable basis for long-term peace in the region.
